Over 250 of the region’s business, civic, and community leaders attended the Vista Chamber of Commerce and Vista Education Foundation’s 6th Annual Heroes of Vista awards. Sponsored by Tri-City Medical Center, the event helped to raise funds for the Vista Education Foundation and recognized standout community members in five education categories, four general community categories, and five business categories. Award recipients included: Roger Royster, STEAM Teacher of the Year from Vista Magnet Middle School; Velia Huerta, Alta Vista High School, the Classified Employee of the Year; Open Source Maker Lab, Small Business of the Year; Andrew Driffill, STEAM Teacher of the Year from Hannalei Elementary; Kai Bowman, Sheriff Deputy of the Year; Bear Roots Brewing, New Business of the Year; Ramiro Santana, STEAM Teacher of the Year, Temple Heights Elementary; Tri-City Medical Center, Large Business of the Year; Laura Smith, Principal of Casita Center, Administrator of the Year; Mehdi Chitgari, Owner of Classic Chariots, Business Person of the Year; and Kathy Brombacher, Lifetime Achievement Award Winner.
