cm_rouse2Vista resident and artist Charles Henry Rouse won first place in the highly competitive February “Sweet Sediments” Member’s Exhibit at the San Diego Watercolor Society (SDWS). His painting, Barcelona Nights, was given the honor by award-winning artist Keiko Tanabe. “There’s a lot of tension in this painting and it shows fantastic skill,” Keiko said. “The contrast is dramatic and the composition is unique. He takes some risks using the dark center that is balanced with the café scene on the left and the yellow on the right. It shows a wonderful use of darks and lights.”

Charles has been painting watercolors for more than 40 years, continually experimenting and perfecting his own techniques. His works have appeared in shows across the nation and have won various awards. More of Charles’ art can be seen at www.charleshenryrouse.com. Learn more about SDWS at www.sdws.org.
