Poise and Personality
The Miss Vista 2016 pageant was held at the beginning of April at the Vista Innovation and Design Academy in a Mardi Gras theme, with 20-year-old Olivia Young and 16-year-old Fabiana Bommino crowned as Miss Vista and Miss Teen Vista 2016. Together Olivia, Fabiana, and their runner-up princesses will be called on to represent Vista with poise and personality in everything from community cleanups to black tie galas, with duties ranging from helping to raise funds and awareness for numerous causes to doing arts and crafts with kids, selling raffle tickets, cheering on marathon runners before sunrise, and much more.
Olivia Young is the daughter of a past Miss Poway. Growing up around pageants, she admitted that she has imagined herself as Miss Vista since she was a little girl. “I watched girls transform into something I’ve always wanted to be, a role model to look up to,” she said. “I feel honored to be the new Miss Vista.” While the steps into the pageant world felt less natural to Fabiana at first, she credits Laura Bednar, the Miss Vista Pageant Director, for encouraging her to get involved. “I admit, I was a little scared, but as I got older, I’ve learned to love myself and my body,” she shared. “During my reign as Miss Teen Vista I want to inspire little girls who want to be princesses one day. Even if only one little girl’s life is touched by me, I will know that I have truly accomplished a great task.”
Princess crowns went to Bibiana Hernandez, Kelly Barnes, Cynthia Delgado, and Karla Escobedo in the Miss division and Rocio Quesada, Leslie Martinez, Mikaela Alvarado, and Keren Tobar in the Teen division. The pageant is open to young women ages 13 to 26 who live, work, or go to school in the Vista area.
