Eight new sculptures by local artist Ricardo Breceda were recently installed at the Alta Vista Botanical Gardens (AVBG). The sculptures include a giraffe, triceratops, t-rex, scorpion, and others. Four of the pieces were purchased by the AVBG board, and four are currently on consignment. The sculptures were installed during a Kids in the Garden class in mid-November, much to the delight of the children. “I like the scorpion best,” several of them commented. “They look almost real,” said another participant. There is also fundraising underway to add a serpent sculpture to the Children’s Garden and donations are still being accepted.
Breceda’s work uses sheet metal that rusts naturally out in the open, and it can also be found on display in Galleta Meadows in Borrego Springs. For more information or to donate contact Nancy B. Jones at email@example.com.
